[Words catch in his throat again listening to Hugo. He was right. Fate wasn't kind when it came to their desires. They'd already lost a decade because of one of them, and he had no intention of letting it take this from him.]
I won't make you wait that long. I can accomplish everything I want for you within the parameters of whatever date we set. [They'd just have to choose it.]
[His hands reach up to brush Hugo's shoulders, taking them with a gentle strength as he pulls him closer. His head dips down to push his lips against the vampire's, feeling those fangs underneath. It was soft, just lingering enough as he pulls away, leaving them inches apart. Their eyes locking as the red meets grey, and grey meets red, both glistening in the Hyrulean moonlight.]
Now, are you going to keep nitpicking my proposal, or are you going to give me an official answer?
[It wasn't needed. He knew the answer. He still wants to hear it.]
[ Hugo tips himself up, effortlessly meeting Lycaon in that kiss. One of his hands rests on the wolf's chest, keeping himself in close even when the kiss fades. He wished he could say that how beautifully this turned out was all as he intended for it to be. That he thought about them reflecting each other so nicely against the night sky as the perfect spot for this.
In the end, it was a perfect string of coincidences that ended up working out far better than he intended. ]
I could nitpick you for hours. We could stand here for days talking about things that don't matter.
But I will not make you wait.
[ It wasn't needed, but this conversation was built up on things that they needed to say. The whole function was to let the other know the feelings they were carrying. With that in mind, Hugo shouldn't hesitate to also tell Lycaon what he wants to hear. ]
I have already been forced to try and live a life without you and, frankly, I hated it. I met a lot of people I still hold dear, but you are the one that I thought of every day. If I managed to mold myself into someone you could acknowledge and be proud of, I'm not sure. It doesn't matter anymore. You chose where you wanted to be, and it turned out to be the place I thought you would never return to. That was enough, but you kept going.
I love you, and see no reason why I should say no when it's so important to you that you would even proceed when all you have is fur and intent.
[His tail is going to be so sore tomorrow. It's wagging is so constant he swears it could function as a fan. He laughs to himself, hearing that acceptance and closing his eyes. So Hugo loved him in return--something he knew, but hearing it put to words made it so much more real.]
I was...encouraged, if I'm honest. Told that if I couldn't even go a week without pining for you, then I should just propose to you and get it over with. I panicked at the time, but once I caught my breath, I couldn't disagree.
Sir Zulius told me that it was something we needed to mutually agree on and work together to see.
[His chin finds its place on top of Hugo's head, letting it rest there as he lets out an exhale.]
There's so much to think about suddenly.
[How much do they divulge to people? Their close friends certainly, but how public should that go? He can already imagine Belle's bafflement. What about surnames? Did they take one of the others? Logically it should be him who takes 'Vlad', but it was a bit clunky with his given name.
...Though. Maybe he doesn't have to think so hard on it. His past life had given a perfect blueprint. He'll see.]
[ Lycaon was pining? That alone was difficult to imagine, but that might have been more the memory of past lives interfering. That was a life far away from their current reality. Lycaon wasn't owned by the enemy this time. They didn't have life and circumstance keeping the animosity up between them. The truth was fully known between them, and they had time to assess something they never gave time to before.
But, that Lycaon was so bad off that others noticed... and suggested this?!
Hugo's head remains still when Lycaon leans on him, Hugo taking a steady breath. ]
We were already working together to see if we could stand to...
[ Hugo trailed off, realizing too many words could fit there. What started as trying to figure out if they could even be together seemed to have changed to finding out it was far harder to be apart. ]
It is a lot to think about. Neither of us are in a position to give the other a family name, for one.
[ His voice trailed off. It would be a lie to say he hasn't thought about it. Not as something that he wanted to offer Lycaon, per se. After they both came to terms with the past that parted them and spent those day in the afterlife's worst dentist office wait room, he had a lot of time to think of the other issue he generally left unresolved. ]
Although, I believe I figured something out for that as well. We can discuss it another time, though.
[ Hugo's gaze lifts, even though he doesn't move. ]
I'm not sure if we should tell the others or just wait until the wedding invitations have to be passed out.
Mm. It was just before I saw you at the Carnival. Sir Zulius found me and when he noticed how I looked, he connected the dots. [He didn't make blanket nests, but he did keep instinctively going for the empty space next to him, only to feel the empty bedsheets.
He likely wouldn't have, in his past life. Not out of lack of care. He went to great lengths for Hugo where he could. But they were of different factions there. It was not something a simple calling card could fix. But here...]
I thought about it, when I returned to Meropide.
[His head keeps resting on the vampire's, it's more like he's just saying his thoughts out loud.]
I wondered if it was too quick, or too drastic. Like you said, we were still finding our foundation. I poured over a notepad for days if it was the right thing to say. It felt..restrained. We know almost everything about each other, including what we'd say in our final moments. We've seen each other at our worst and yet the tether refuses to break.
'Why wait arbitrarily because of time', I wondered. I just...didn't know how to say that.
Thankfully, you gave me the perfect stage to do so. As much as I wanted to throw you in Blue Fish Lake for that picture.
[He snorts. He can't believe he fell for that.]
I'll hear you out later, then. [For someone who was so shocked by this, Hugo must've mused about the idea...how long ago waws that?]
[He gives another indignant snort at the last sentence, a smile creeping on his lips.]
Perhaps being selective with who we tell. Lia would likely want to know, for example. Molly and Sir Zulius. ...I'm quite certain the Manager still thinks we are at each other's throats.
The rest...being notified by calling card would be apt for Mockingbird.
